Acetone, the miracle nail polish remover…Or is it?

9 Dec

nails_manicure_acetone_nail_polish_removerAcetone is probably one of my most used nail products. Pure acetone can get unwanted nail polish off your fingers in one sweep. That’s why I love it. It’s fast, easy and pretty cheap. What you might not know however, is that acetone can really damage your nails and fingers. According to self.com, it can strip your nails of its nutrients and cause it to break easily and become weak. It can also dry your fingertips and cause crackly skin around your nail beds. What to do with dried up, gunky nail polish!

9 Dec

dried out opi black shatterI have a whole collection of nail polishes some are new, some are old. I even have some from when I was in junior high. But what do you do when your favorite nail polish that you’ve kept forever dries out and becomes sticky and gunky? This is what happened to me when I was preparing to do my usual nail art. I opened up a bottle of sticky gunk. I was saddened that my favorite white nail polish was completely ruined. I still had hope, though. I’d heard of several strategies used to thin out nail polish. One of which includes using nail polish remover. If you do this, DO NOT DO IT ANYMORE. Putting nail polish remover can ruin even the most expensive nail polishes. Continue reading

Glitter Ombre Nails

27 Nov

One of the popular trends going on in the nail world right now is glitter ombré. This design is perfect for those Holiday nails that you’ve been looking for. I’m obsessed with them. I had never done them before until this Thanksgiving. In the past, I’ve attempted to do the ombré with glitter nail polish, but I found it very difficult to get the glitter to fade on the nail the way I wanted it to. It would get really clumpy and just be a huge mess and who wants clumpy holiday nails?! So when my sister came home for Thanksgiving and requested a glitter ombré, I thought I would finally give it a go. Continue reading

Essie Winter Nail Collection

20 Nov

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!!!! Bring out those boots, scarves and Christmas lights everyone, because the holidays are finally here. Christmastime and winter is my absolute favorite time of the year. I think I actually like it better than my birthday. One of my favorite things I look forward to this time of the year is winter colors. Finding the perfect color to go with your outfit for a Christmas or New Year’s Party, can be really fun. But it can also be really expensive. It’s just so hard to buy one color! I know when I go to the store for nail polish, I can’t just buy one. Continue reading

Healthy Nail Beds

20 Nov

One thing that I am guilty of is not keeping up with my nails. And no I don’t mean nail polish. I mean keeping those lovely nail beds moisturized, trimmed and cut. With my busy schedule, sometimes I don’t have time to take care of them. One of the hardest things about nails is keeping them nice and healthy. Not taking care of your nails can not only your nails look gross, but your hands as well. What you might not realize is that with just a few simple steps, you can look like you just stepped out of the nail salon. Continue reading
